Newborn who plunged from NYC building was thrown
The baby died from “multiple blunt force injuries”, according to New York Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Barbara Sampson.
One of witnesses said that the woman’s eyes were dead when she was apprehended by the police.
A woman police believe threw her newborn daughter to her death from a seventh-floor window of a New York City apartment building has been arrested. She told a few of them that she had miscarried weeks ago. There was newborn baby unresponsive and she still had her umbilical cord attached.
The infant was found at about 2:30 p.m. Monday by the wife of the building’s superintendent.
Officers also spoke to her boyfriend who denied any knowledge of the incident – and said he had not even been aware she was pregnant. “I’ve been cleared of all charges”, he added.
Thirty-three-year-old Jennifer Berry was arraigned late Tuesday in Bronx Criminal Court and was being held without bail.
She is alleged to have admitted throwing the placenta and baby out of the window.
“There was air in the lungs, this was a healthy baby girl”, Ms Barker said, according to the New York Daily News.
Berry gave birth to the infant in the shower and initially alleged it was not breathing. A source said she had “minimal contact with families”, when she worked for the agency for six months in 2007 and 2008. She was sacked from her job after she stopped showing up for work. Berry, who is from Yonkers, was visiting at the time, they said.
Cops determined that Berry’s boyfriend was in another room when she threw the child out the window, only discovering his newborn child had been discarded after authorities arrived at his mother’s apartment.
