Newcastle bottled Chelsea win – Ayoze Perez
Jose Mourinho branded Chelsea’s first-half performance at Newcastle as the worst of his reign as they fought back to draw 2-2.
He then distracted Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul sufficiently to enable Willian’s free kick to find a way past the custodian in the 86th minute.
STEVE McClaren has revealed he is not about to change his approach to transforming Newcastle United despite a terrible start to the season.
“We have to make sure that we’re like this every single game against every team”.
He said: “Mitro and I felt comfortable together”.
“There is a question mark over why we didn’t do what the team was supposed to do and I have to try to understand why it happened”.
“I’m pleased we didn’t lose but I wish we would have won because the belief would have really risen”.

“You can not say that I react negatively, I complain, I am a critic”.
Mitrovic combined well with Ayoze Perez and the pair could get the chance to continue their partnership away to Manchester City on Saturday (3pm). The Blues are placed in the bottom six after seven league games with just eight points, winning just two of their encounters.
“In the first half, from 0 to 10, [Chelsea were] -1”.
“I put it down to individual performances”. There were too many poor individual performances and as a effect it was impossible to be a good competitive team.
Mourinho said the game had been saved by the introduction of Ramires and Willian as substitutes. He has drawn three, lost three.
Mourinho said after the 2-2 draw that one of Newcastle’s ongoing problems is a lack of consistency, raising themselves for a few matches and not in others, with this week’s results & performances against Watford, Sheffield Wednesday Reserves and Chelsea showing up as ideal illustrations of that.
“This is an attitude typical of a team that wins nothing”.
It was believed that Chelsea would be back at their flowing best after an important win over a title rival, but it was not to be seen as they stuttered in the first half and failed to create a clear opportunity against Newcastle. That’s what we got. We played closer together and spoke a lot to each other about what we wanted to do.
