Newcastle out of drop zone after stunning Tottenham 2-1
“It hurts. We want to win more than anyone”.
Newcastle have won back to back Premier League games for the first time in over a year (November 2014). “It is a very unsafe game for us”. While I like Tottenham to win the game, I cant take them at these short prices for a number of reasons. We’ve asked for consistency and the last two weeks have provided that on the back of a lot of criticism.
Victory over Newcastle would also leave Spurs just four points behind leaders Arsenal, who will be replaced at the top of the table by Leicester City if the Foxes beat Chelsea on Monday night.
The home side’s surprise defeat – their first in the Premier League since going down 1-0 at Manchester United on the opening day of the season – came just three days after they played Monaco in Europe’s second-tier competition.
Spurs were struggling to break down their visitors but they found another gear in the last 10 minutes of the first half. “After 14 games unbeaten we need to keep on the same level to win every game”. Newcastle still have their problems, obviously – you don’t land in 18th place without having problems – but they’ll fight Tottenham to the hilt and won’t give up until the final whistle blows.
Newcastle United’s goal-scoring hero Aleksandar Mitrovic was delighted to see hard work behind the scenes pay off as Steve McClaren’s team climbed out of the relegation zone with a stunning 2-1 comeback win at Tottenham on Sunday.
The lengthy additional time was for the long delay after Craig Gardner’s reckless knee-high challenge – which went unpunished – on Dejan Lovren saw the Croatia defender carried off on a stretcher.
The second half started cagily, with both teams poking at the ball without creating real chances save a Harry Kane snap shot from outside the box that Elliot did well to parry away.
The Argentinian manager believes it was a game of two halves and that “easy mistakes” gave Newcastle the chance to get back into the game.
“Everyone was happy with the first half; it was clear we had energy to create chances and control the game, so I am not anxious”, he insisted.
“So, yeah, it’s not an easy football club, as you and we all know, but that’s the situation that we’re in”.
Christian Eriksen twice tested Elliot in the second half with low drives at goal but the Englishman was more than a match.
