Newcastle United set to complete £12m Florian Thauvin signing
Newcastle are finally on the verge of signing Florian Thauvin from Marseille – taking their summer spend to £50million.
The Daily Mirror says a deal worth £12million is expected to be completed next week, as Newcastle boss Steve McClaren looks to add some extra spark to his attack.
Marseille sources have told reporters this evening that this offer was “not refusable”.
On the opening day they lost 1-0 at home to Caen and on Sunday lost by the same scoreline at Reims, both of those clubs finishing in the bottom half of Ligue 1 last season. The Frenchman has rejected multiple approaches from Premier League sides this summer, but especially from the rather persistent Magpies, and there is no guaranteeing that he will commit to this move.
Marseille want €17m to be put on the table for Thauvin, €2m more than they paid Lille to sign the player. Bielsa’s departure has played a large role in changing Thauvin’s mind.
Newcastle United have agreed a move with Marseille for Florian Thauvin, according to reports. More undoubtedly to follow.
