Newly-elected mayor of Juneau, Alaska, found dead
Juneau mayor Stephen “Greg” Fisk was found dead one month into his three-year term.
Fisk had scheduled appointments Monday and when he missed them, his adult son, Ian, went to his father’s home and spotted the body. Fisk was declared dead at the scene. He moved to Alaska in 1959 after it became an official state.
“He has some stairs, some very steep stairs going up to a loft so I wouldn’t be surprised, just speculating, that he might have fallen down those stairs”, Hebert said.
“It is not clear yet if the injuries are due to an accident or other trauma”, police said to CNN. And there were no signs of forced entry into his house.
Fisk, who also was a consultant for the fishing industry, was a very progressive mayor who supported gay marriage, and the legalization of marijuana.
Police spokeswoman Erann Kalwara said there could be several reasons for them.
Fisk was discovered dead inside his Kennedy Street home Monday afternoon.
No cause of death was released but late Monday Juneau police addressed rumors surrounding Fisk’s death. “There could’ve been a fall, there’s lots of things that would cause it”.
The office of the medical examiner has authorized an autopsy. He had been elected mayor on October 6 and sworn in as mayor on October 20.
The statement also dismissed suggestions as to what circumstances were involved in the death of Fish, calling that all speculation.
Fisk was elected in October, beating incumbent Merrill Sanford with 65.9 percent of the vote.
Alaska Governor Bill Walker paid tribute to Mr Fisk on Twitter.
After his death, the city’s deputy mayor, Mary Becker, officially “assumed the Mayor’s role”, the city said in a statement.
