Newport County part company with Terry Butcher
HITC Sport understands Terry Butcher has been sacked as Newport County manager.
County’s Supporters Trust confirmed on Thursday morning they had smashed past their £195,000 target needed to complete a takeover of the Rodney Parade outfit. “I can’t complain about the result, I’m glad it was only 3-0”.
The Welsh club languish bottom of English football with only one win and a measly five points.
County now sit bottom of League two, with just one win from ten games since the former England worldwide took charge of the club in April.
Tuesday’s home defeat to Crawley Town appeared to be the final straw for Butcher, who has struggled to get his side playing the football we desired or achieving the results they wanted so far.
The former England captain succeeded Justin Edinburgh at The Exiles after nearly a year out of the game, following a disappointing spell as Hibernian boss.
“In addition to Terry’s departure, Russell Osman [Assistant Manager] and Steve Marsella [Chief Scout] have also left the club”.
They thanked Butcher and his staff for all of their efforts during their relatively brief stay with the South Wales club.
‘The club hopes to make an announcement on a successor prior to Saturday’s fixture against Exeter City.
