NewsOn Launched its Free App
The app is available on iPhones and iPads, Android smartphones and tablets, and Roku devices. Together, these five broadcast TV station groups formed NewsON back in June, and now the app is available for download.
With more TV stations and markets being added soon, keep checking the NewsON app to find more of the news that matters to you most.
The app allows users to watch broadcast-quality video instantly at the touch of a button on mobile devices and connected TVs.
Now, more and more people are switching to online streaming from traditional cable, but the main concern to this streaming service is that people don’t get access to wide range of local news broadcasters. The vast majority of the participating stations belong to NewsOn’s founding members, but the company expects its lineup to become much more varied over time, as it enters new markets and picks up additional stations in existing territories.
The contents of this news app will be aired from 118 stations and will cover 90 markets.
NewsON’s channel selection is expected to grow in the future.
In addition, the app will also include news from all the stations owned by Graham Holdings and a few by Tegna. Tweets regarding the news will also be displayed on NewsON and users can respond and contribute natively through the app.
The video clips and broadcasts could be reportedly discovered with the usage of the interactive map. It may be additionally searched by way of community affiliation, by state or name letters.
As Variety digital editor Todd Spangler writes, “The strategy with NewsON is to aggregate local broadcast content under one umbrella brand, with a common set of features”.
“NewsON expands the reach and relevance of local broadcast news, and delivers a uniquely valuable experience for viewers”, says NewsON CEO Louis Gump.
It may be free for consumers, but NewsOn is planning to generate income via a dual revenue model.
A few analysts predict minor flaws on NewsON.
