The storm is expected to bring heavy rain, and some areas might see up to five inches during the downpour.
Some parts of Arizona could receive between three and four inches of rain, which is the equivalent of receiving between one-fourth and one-third of the annual rainfall in a single day! “But it’s not unheard of for southern Arizona to have gotten hit by tropical storms before”.
Before the storm system became a tropical storm, at least 70 homes and schools were damaged in Acapulco in the state of Guerrero and 200 people were trapped in a housing complex, prompting air evacuations by police, marines and the army. The Category 1 hurricane, which made its way over the Baja California Peninsula with wind speeds up to 90 miles per hour, also left three people missing.
Light to moderate rain continues to fall in southeastern Arizona where a flash flood watches remain in effect through Wednesday evening as remnants from Tropical Storm Newton move into the Southwest from Mexico. The boat had set out from the port of Ensenada and was bound for Mazatlan.
Californian holidaymaker Mark Hernandez said: “We pray for the city of Cabo San Lucas”. “We pray for the city of Cabo San Lucas”.
