Next Mercedes-Maybach is a R4.6-million beast
Mercedes-Maybach, the premium arm of the Stuttgart-based carmaker has introduced its first convertible – the S 650 Cabriolet, at the ongoing LA Auto Show.
But the S650 Cabriolet is more about the experience you get in the cabin rather than what’s going on around you.
The next model from the Mercedes-Maybach sub-brand has been revealed in the form of an ultra-luxurious version of the S-Class Cabriolet. On the rear deck, the overall look can be further enhanced with “flowing lines”, to create an ambience inspired by the Mercedes-Benz Style “Arrow 460-Granturismo” yacht.
Mercedes-Benz have officially unveiled the next step in the revival of the Mercedes-Maybach brand. There’s a new front bumper with a new lower section and “numerous” chrome highlights dotted around the auto. Naturally, it comes with optional extras as standard – including Swarovski headlamps, and “entrance lighting” which projects the Maybach logo on the floors when you open the door. The vehicle even comes with a special Maybach luggage set, which is of course color-matched to the interior setup the buyer chooses.
The Maybach convertible is powered by a 6.0-liter V-12 twin-turbo engine that produces 621 hp.
Given the Maybach’s extreme quietness while on the road, the tunes belting out from the Burmeister sound system makes one feel as though they are alone listening to Mozart in a concert hall.
But if all of that weren’t enough, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet also comes with bespoke luggage, including two large travel bags and duet lifestyle totes.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the first fully-convertible Maybach. The chassis is controlled by adaptive dampers and it has air suspension. It will crack 100kmph from a standstill in 4.1 seconds and reach an electronically limited top-speed of 250kmph without demanding much attention.
Does it work? We’ll let you pore over the photographs to make your own judgment on the uniqely sculpted bumpers, 20-inch bichromatic wheels and Maybach logo puddle lamps. The roof, meanwhile, is the same soft-top found on the S-Class Cabriolet.
