NFL clears Patriots of headset suspicion in opening game
The outside paranoia surrounding the New England Patriots got another boost Thursday night when it was reported during the 2015 NFL Kickoff that the Pittsburgh Steelers’ headsets were playing the Pats’ radio broadcast.
The National Football League is investigating an alleged assault by Pittsburgh Steelers tight ends coach James Daniel on a Patriots fan at Gillette Stadium before halftime of the season opener on Thursday night, ESPN reports.
The Patriots also made claims their headsets were having problems as well and nearly had to switch out Tom Brady’s helmet because of it.
“This is the kind of stuff that happens to the visiting team in Gillette Stadium all the time”. And when the radio station found out, they started talking to the Steelers coaches directly, which left a lot of speculation that head coach Bill Belichick and the team were up to more dirty tricks.
The problems were resolved in the second half, but the Patriots won the game 28-21.
Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly has heard air traffic control coming in over the headsets he uses to communicate with his staff. Former Ravens coach Brian Billick said he once heard a pizza delivery guy.
Tomlin was visibly angry about the situation, but clarified that he wasn’t accusing the Patriots.
The National Football League provides the communication equipment to teams for games, but it us up to the home team to maintain said equipment. The issue was addressed and the equipment functioned properly with no additional issues.
The Patriots said they had problems with their headsets, too.
Yet all that only adds to opponents’ fury: The Patriots don’t need to cheat – yet they have, time and again.
But the Patriots, who have been at the centre of the recent NFL Deflategate controversy, are guilty of no impropriety whatsoever, according to a league spokesperson. He said the league was on the verge of shutting off the headsets used by coaches, but then got things fixed.
“We had to switch headphones a couple times, the communication system wasn’t very good”. Sunk pretty deep. First of all, I would say I think our program here is built on competition and trying to improve every day.
Then there’s all those divorce rumors swirling around him, and, oh yeah, the other huge cheating scandal Brady’s Patriots have allegedly been involved in for more than a decade!
