NFL Draft rumors: Mike Mayock loves Sam Darnold
It turns out he’s not all that impressed.
“We saw him in even in college football helping out in special teams”.
“I think at that point, you are looking at the best player you can find”, Mayock said. “McGlinchey would be a natural”. His name has come up as one of five quarterbacks expected to go in the first round.
Let’s start at No. 1 with the Cleveland Browns.
“It’s really interesting because I think people were so anticipating this class that it surprises people when we start to kind of pick our way through them and really grind the tape”.
With that being said, linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and Roquan Smith have created a lot of buzz with their freakish athletic abilities, and upside in general. He’s also not saying they’re worse than other conferences.
“I wanted to look at Kirk Cousins and say, ‘I have a few places that I don’t want you to go, so you don’t take my spot, ‘” Mayfield said on the show. “[Bradley] Chubb will be gone”. Giants GM Dave Gettleman would have a huge decision on his hands, whether to accept building for the future with Sam Darnold, or to try and trade down to build for the right now around Eli Manning. “Both safeties, [Minkah] Fitzpatrick and [Derwin] James, are unbelievable”.
Smart will be among a contingent of family and close friends with Smith in the green room as National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell announces each pick during the first round on Thursday night.
If the Browns are looking to get back into the first round to snag a player they covet, as they did a year ago with David Njoku, the Detroit Lions could be a willing dance partner. So I’m very bullish on this kid. He’s going to be a core cover guy in special teams… Rumor has it, they aren’t going to make that same mistake this year. They invested at wide receiver for sure (last year with Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor).
The Jets would need to have little internal doubt that the Buffalo Bills, desperate for a franchise QB of their own, will indeed round up their considerable draft chips to seal a deal for the second pick in the draft owned by the New York Giants.
