NFL Draft To Take Place In Chicago
As indicated by CSN Chicago, the NFL Draft resulted in an economic spike of $100 million. NFL Network reports that it will be announced that the 2016 draft will take place in Chicago. Rapoport also said the fan engagement that “Draft Town” provided could be expanded for 2016.
Draft Town is back after the NFL Draft made its initial return to Chicago in 2015 following a 50-year hiatus.
The 2015 NFL Draft was held in Chicago, the first time the event was located outside of New York City in more than 50 years.
While the city did not earn any money from the leasing of Grant Park, the event created a boom in businesses and hotels near Grant Park and Auditorium Theatre from both the league, its broadcasters, and the almost 200,000 attendees from around the country.
Initially there was some thought that the NFL would look to keep the event moving from year-to-year to allow new cities and new pockets of home-town fans to be a part of the festivities.
NFL owners are in Chicago for a special meeting to consider bringing pro football back to Los Angeles, a city that hasn’t had a franchise since the Rams left for St. Louis in 1995. The mayor said that no public money will be used by the city in hosting the event.
While locked in for the 2016 Draft, the NFL will develop a selection process for determining locations of future Drafts. “Our world class metropolis will as soon as once more be reworked into Draft City the place NFL followers and gamers will collect as NFL groups make alternatives”.
