NFL Fans Angrily Tweet at Wrong Brandon Marshall After Anthem Protest
Marshall was the most recent athlete to take a knee and as of Friday afternoon he had lost his endorsement deal with Air Academy Federal Credit Union over the protest.
One of the biggest talking points coming out of the Thursday night opening game of the National Football League season between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers didn’t even happen during the game.
Air Academy Federal Credit Union, which mostly serves members of the military and their families, announced on social media Friday that it was ending its five-month relationship with Marshall.
Meanwhile, other fans believe that the boycott of the NFL over Colin Kaepernick and Brandon Marshall’s refusal to stand for the National Anthem is laughable. “And Brandon has the rights to his belief and stuff and I’m going to keep us focused on the football”.
Marshall posted on Instagram after Thursday’s game to communicate why he was kneeling.
Marshall, who is black, is the third NFL player to not stand during the national anthem since Kaepernick began his sideline protest against racial injustice and police brutality.
Seattle’s receiver Doug Baldwin said this week he is considering sitting during the anthem ahead of Sunday’s home game while team mate Bobby Wagner said the Seahawks have been talking about a group action.
I, like Colin Kaepernick, Megan Rapinoe, Jeremy Lane, and Eric Reid, won’t stand for a flag that doesn’t honor what the country was built on. And while his status on the 49ers was already in question, many fewer teams would now be willing to take him on, because while, say, accused rapists usually get a second or third chance, taking an unpopular political stand is an entirely different matter. The statement read, “While we respect Brandon’s right of expression, his actions are not a representation of our organization and membership”. “I believe in our guys and I believe in them wholeheartedly”.
“I feel like this is the right platform”, he continued, according to NFL.com. Already, there is a rumbling of discontent from the people who pay for high priced tickets and allow athletes like Kaepernick to make millions of dollars. We are actually educated individuals that went to college. Sometimes though, it takes someone with a bigger platform than you or I to say, “Hey, things have to change”.
“He’s a great kid”.
