NFL kickers miss 11 PAT attempts, most in Super Bowl era

It also will likely make more and more teams go for two from the two yard line instead of attempt a kick from the less sure area of the field.

Blair Walsh was released by the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday after he missed four extra points this season, including one each in Weeks 9 and 10. He’d never missed two point after attempts in a season, much less a game.

Extra-point attempts are proving tricky in Sunday’s early National Football League action. Detroit’s Matt Prater, Chicago’s Connor Barth, Minnesota’s Kai Forbath, Jacksonville’s Jason Myers and Cleveland’s Cody Parkey have missed one each. Forbath, Myers and Prater all missed despite being indoors. If teams can’t depend on kickers to put the ball between the uprights from 33 yards out, get rid of the play.

Extra points were automatic until the ball was moved back to the 15 at the start of last season.

Add in the fact that the Bengals lost A.J. Green on the second play of the game with a hamstring injury that may well end his season, and no one was in an embracing mood afterward.
