NFL Monday Night Football game in Seattle ends in controversy, sound familiar?
The percentages for the first and last scenarios might not seem very high for Detroit, but that’s because Seattle had two timeouts, leaving plenty of time for the Seahawks to respond (also assuming Detroit scores quickly in the last scenario). With 10:59 left in the fourth quarter, Detroit safety James Ihedigbo knocked the ball loose from Russell Wilson and DT Caraun Reid scooped up the loose ball and bolted 27 yards for a Detroit touchdown that narrowed Seattle’s lead o just three points at 13 to10. The sports limited directly into end territory in which the new fish was better informed in the back brand by K.J. Wright for getting a touchback and Seattle’s ball’s inside the 20.
Of course there are plenty of other calls that the National Football League won’t let their officials take a second look at.
However, the Seahawks were not penalized, and instead were awarded the possession and the chance to run the clock out on their victory. You would enforce the foul half the distance from that spot had we called an illegal bat on the field.
Wright admitted to batting the ball, although he thought he was making a good play. That includes among players, many of whom said after the game they were unaware they weren’t allowed to bat the ball out of the end zone.
Detroit Lions senior writer Tim Twentyman reported Calvin Johnson’s statement taking responsibility for the entire situation. It’s an intentional act and you can’t rule on intent. It would have given the Lions the ball inside the 1-yard line with a first down. “So I know now”.
“I just think it’s unfortunate because it was such an incredible play, ” Carroll said during his regular day-after-game radio show on ESPN 710 Seattle. “That conversation we had is a privileged one, just like most conversations we have after games with league officials”.
The reason I don’t agree is that there are multiple flags thrown every game for penalties that didn’t affect the play at all.
Seattle Coach Pete Carroll said about the missed call: “Now that you look at it we are fortunate….”
Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson wouldn’t take the bait from the ring of reporters around his locker-room stall late Monday night at CenturyLink Field.
Until well after that play, though, many of us were probably unaware of the rule that states the ball can’t be intentionally batted in either end zone.
“I know that there is always going to be that discussion, because technology is not going backwards”, McKay said.
“It doesn’t put a win in the win column for us”, Stafford said of being on the wrong end of another rules issue. “With the non-call, Seattle’s got the ball that’s a touch back, it’s just a 10% win probability for Detroit”. “It is recommended that all players wear hip pads created to reasonably avoid the risk of injury”, the rule book says.
“It can work two ways, you can keep dwelling on it and feel sorry for yourself”, Caldwell said.
