NFL owner buys historic Waggoner Ranch, largest in US
Stan Kroenke, the owner of the Los Angeles Rams and England’s Arsenal FC, made headlines recently when the National Football League agreed to allow Kroenke to move the Rams from St. Louis to Los Angeles after the Rams and St. Louis could not agree on a public/private partnership to build a new stadium. The original asking price was $725 million, which includes the cattle, horses, farm equipment, 30,000 acres of cropland, 1,000 oil wells, business offices, lakes and employees.
A sale price anywhere close to that figure would far outstrip any other in dollar value for a USA ranch, surpassing…
The heirs of cattle baron W.T. Waggoner said Tuesday that a judge permitted the sale to the Los Angeles Rams owner for an undisclosed sum.
Terms for the deal were not disclosed.
The W.T. Waggoner Ranch was founded in 1849 by Dan and W.T. Waggonner. When the Waggoner was put up for sale, ranch staff anxious about the new owner’s intentions, fearing he or she could divide up the land and fire employees. It’s roughly the size of the state of Rhode Island.
The Waggoner is the largest USA ranch within one fence, measuring 520,527 acres, or 800 square miles. “The sale of the Waggoner was an extraordinarily complex and multi-faceted process, and its successful culmination is a tribute to the many people, teams and layers of teams representing all sides behind the process”.
“This is an incredible opportunity and even greater responsibility”, Kroenke said. “We will continue to preserve and protect this uniquely American treasure”. “We look forward to learning from and building on the remarkable heritage of this crown jewel of ranching”.
Twitter is once again under attack by Arsenal fans after majority shareholder Stan Kroenke forked out £501million on a Texas mega ranch.
