NFL Reviewing Claims That Peyton Manning Received Human Growth Hormones
Davies said the report had merely cited a former employee of the Guyer Institute in Indianapolis, Charlie Sly, who claimed to have knowledge that HGH was shipped to Manning’s wife Ashley.
Co-host Mike Salk said the Al Jazeera report seems nowhere near as substantiated as the indictments of baseball great Barry Bonds in the book “Game of Shadows”.
However, the brunt of the investigation relied on a series of recordings with a pharmacist named Charlie Sly, who in 2011 worked at an anti-aging clinic where Manning sought treatment for a sidelining neck injury. “We’re not making the allegation against Peyton Manning”.
A spokesperson for manning called Al Jazeera’s defense of the report backpedaling.
Reports began circulating that Manning had been receiving human growth hormones in his wife’s name while recovering from neck surgery four years ago. State licensing records indicate that a Charles David Sly was licensed as a pharmacy intern in IN from April 2010 to May 2013. “And it would never be under Peyton’s name, it would always be under her name”. However, it is looking less and less likely that the reports are true, and Manning could well be in the squeaky clean quarterback everyone believes him to be.
Sly told ESPN that he “made up” the story about Manning. “To be clear, I am recanting any such statements and there is no truth to any statement of mine that Al Jazeera plans to air”.
Davies said that Al Jazeera isn’t “changing anything” and that her investigative team stands by “everything in the program”.
Al Jazeera is a reputable media company, but it’s irresponsible to throw out a single source (who may or may not be a reputable one) saying Ashley Manning got growth hormone and then claim there were no allegations against Peyton Manning.
Manning, along with other athletes implicated in the report, vehemently denied the claims.
HGH isn’t the only drug Al Jazeera claims Sly provided to professional athletes. Sly told Collins that Peyton and his wife, Ashley, would visit the Guyer Institute after hours and receive IV treatments.
Papa John’s said Tuesday that it is standing by Peyton Manning, its prime celebrity spokesman, amid doping allegations. Following publication of the Al Jazeera documentary, he recorded a video recanting his statements to Collins. The documentarians, in turn, insist they carefully laid an allegation at the feet of Mrs. Manning rather than the NFL’s all-time leader in yardage through the air and passing touchdowns. (More on that later tonight.) The league also can’t extract information involuntarily from Ashley Manning.
