NFL’s Eagles hire Ferndale grad Pederson as head coach

With so much of the franchise’s front office and coaching pieces still unsorted, it’s not clear whether Philadelphia will want Bradford back or if the signal-caller has any desire to return.

Philadelphia Eagles fans who watched the Chiefs-Patriots divisional round playoff game on Saturday evening recognized a sight all too familiar towards the end of the game.

Now that the Eagles have officially found a replacement for Chip Kelly, it is time for the team to completely restructure their offensive scheme and find ways to utilize Sam Bradford and DeMarco Murray. Introductory press conference, #Eagles coach Doug Pederson gets asked “why did that drive take so long?”

Lurie denied that he had offered the job to anyone else, even though it appeared as if the Eagles pursued at least three candidates before turning to Pederson last Thursday. Lurie solicited his former head coach’s opinion about whom he should hire – unusual enough in its own right – and then, after allegedly discussing that opinion with just about everyone in the National Football League, took Reid’s recommendation and ran with it. Lurie essentially said: If Pederson is good enough for Andy, then he’s good enough for me. “As one source with a team other than the Chiefs told PFT, Pederson’s awareness that he would be getting the job necessarily became a distraction as he prepared for a playoff game. I think that’s the first important step of being a head coach”, former Eagle Jeremy Maclin said, via Comcast Sports Net’s Derrick Gunn. He was with Miami, Green Bay, Philadelphia and Cleveland. The Chiefs opened the season 1-5, which forced Reid to make some changes, and one was giving Pederson more responsibility.

The caveat: Reid would call the plays. He was 2-7 as a starter for the Eagles.

When Dan Marino was sidelined for the season in October by a torn Achilles tendon, Shula couldn’t remember the name of his third quarterback until someone reminded him. Jackson was head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2011 and finished with an 8-8 record, but was sacked after only one season. That title team was quarterbacked by Stan Humphries, who would go on to be part of a Super Bowl title team with Washington. Kelly was 10-6 in each of his first two seasons and won a division title in 2013 before going 6-9 this season.

“To me, it’s about a place I care about and whatever that means to help and to be around people that you care about to help the team”, he said.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Colts hired Brian Schottenheimer as their quarterbacks coach Monday. “Something I knew I had to get done at the end of the season”. In 2009, Pederson was signed on to be the offensive quality control coach.
