NFL Week 12 Predictions: San Diego Chargers vs. Houston Texans 11/27/16
Rebounding from a loss before the bye week, the San Diego Chargers responded by ending the Texans home winning streak with a 21-13 victory on Sunday. Led by quarterback Brock Osweiler, the AFC South Texans have a 6-4 record heading into this contest where they will be challenged with protecting their ideal home record of 5-0.
The Texans’ $72 million quarterback Brock Osweiler threw three interceptions in the contest, though the last one was a Hail Mary at the end of the game. “They had a good game plan and we battled but made too many mistakes and lost the game”.
The special units turned in a solid first quarter, getting good punts from Drew Kaser and good coverage – but as the game unfolded, there was a missed 54-yard field goal from Josh Lambo, poor punts from Kaser and a 15-yard penalty. “It’s a work in progress and it’s something that I’m still trying to master”, Osweiler said, describing his experience with the Texans offense through week 11. But in all reality it’s 2 teams that are talented but lacking in certain key areas that hold them back.
Phillip Rivers threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns to help San Diego improve to 5-6.
The Chargers (5-6) won behind Rivers’ pinpoint passing and a strong performance from their defense, which forced four turnovers. The Chargers’ previous excursion to the Lone Star State resulted in a 29-23 triumph in 2010.
It is obvious that Head Coach Bill O’Brien is determined that his quarterback will conform to his offense, rather than to adjust the offense to Osweiler’s strengths.
The Houston Texans had every reason to complain about the officiating in their loss to Oakland Monday night, but that game is in the books. My god does the staff realize GM Rick Smith spent a fortune on the offense, yet you only go to two people!? That wasn’t the case for the Texans they took steps back, and because of this loss they have put their AFC South lead in danger. Brock Osweiler has to get Hopkins the ball in the end zone.
The Houston offensive futility was never more evident than on consecutive drives in the third quarter that began at the San Diego 48 and 38 respectively. “Obviously, I’m expecting some game plan adjustments that maybe I haven’t seen before, but certainly I feel like San Diego is more of a common opponent in my eyes”.
Kevin Valenzuela (3-0): “With the Chargers and Texans not living up to expectations this season it’s easy to look at this game and just change the channel”.
“We got beat. That’s all I can say”, Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel said. Basically, the Colts will likely need to finish with a better record than the Texans instead of just finishing with the same record.
