NIA arrests 6 al-Qaeda, IS operatives from Karnataka
Asked whether the state police were aware that arrests would be made, Parameshwara said NIA in coordination with the state police conduct such operations. Eleven suspected Islamic State recruits were arrested.
All the arrested accused were being brought to the national capital for detailed interrogation as preliminary enquiry indicated that there was a proper structure of the terror outfit.
The National Investigation Agency on Friday arrested six Islamic State suspects from Karnataka.
A team of NIA officials from Delhi came to Hyderabad and carried searches across the city and picked up suspects from Madhapur, Masab Tank and Gachibowli.
Another suspect was detained in a joint operation by Mumbai Police’s Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) and the NIA in Mumbra, Mumbai.
He said among those arrested four were from Bengaluru, one from Tumkuru and one was from Hubli.
Earlier this week, Special Cell of Delhi Police had arrested four suspected terrorists from Uttarakhand.
The alleged member of the terror group was identified as Maulana Anzar Shah. The decision makes a point, especially at juncture when “lone wolf attack” is being feared by the government.
The security agency has warned that the terror group, which was previously successful in spreading mayhem in many parts of the world, is most likely to make an attempt to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi and France President Francois Hollande. Preliminary investigation has revealed that they planned to disturb the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
