Nice days forecast for Thanksgiving
This morning, that area of high pressure is over the Carolinas, giving us a southerly flow of warm, moist air off the Gulf of Mexico behind that high. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch from Thursday morning through Friday night with 2-4 inches of rain expected.
Low 40s for Friday with mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will remain in the 40s both days, possibly in the low 50s on Thanksgiving Day. Overnight, temperatures will fall in to the 30’s under partly cloudy skies.
For high school playoff games during the evening, temperatures will likely be in the 50s with mainly high, thin clouds.
Forecasters predict much of Arkansas will be soaked with wet weather over the Thanksgiving weekend, including some areas that could get up to 7 inches of rain. The NWS forecasts a 90 percent chance of snow and north northeast winds up to 17 miles per hour. Low near: 60. High near: 67.
The cooler air coming in Friday night might cause the rain to change over to snow briefly, but this new air coming in is looking pretty dry.
Friday: Cloudy with rain pushing in from the northwest as the day wears on.
Because of the snow and climbing temperatures, fog could be a potential problem on Tuesday morning.
Rain is expected to continue for most of the day Saturday with afternoon temperatures struggling to reach 40.
Snow and ice accumulations appear light at this point, but we will know more later this week as forecast models become more focused.
The record was set during the warmest Thanksgiving on record in 1896, which also featured a 71-degree high temperature.
