Nick Krygios Fined For Sledging Stan Wawrinka; Swiss Netter — Tennis News
Thanasi Kokkinakis is another Australian tennis player who is a teammate of Kyrgios with the Davis Cup team.
Djokovic, a close friend of Wawrinka, said Kyrgios deserved to be punished.
Wawrinka was unimpressed, taking to Twitter to vent his views, calling for further action against Kyrgios.
When asked by a reporter why he made those remarks, Kyrgios said that Wawrinka was getting “lippy” and that’s how he responded. I wasn t surprised. It s all cleared now.
A furious Wawrinka demanded the ATP take action against Kyrgios, who later issued a public apology but faces the threat of suspension from the tour.
Teenage Croatian player Donna Vekic, 19, has been linked to Wawrinka since he divorced his wife Ilham in April.
Meanwhile Kyrgios’ mother told Fairfax Media that Kyrgios might have been incited by an incident that occurred earlier this year.
“I ve been fined”. I’ve been fined. So everything is sort of put to bed now.
“I definitely felt there was a bit of tension out there tonight”, he told reporters Wednesday.
Kyrgios’ insult rocked the sport and the criticism has come from all directions, including world number one Novak Djokovic.
The Serb then commented on the Kyrgios incident.
“But again, there’s no excuse for what he has said”.
He asserted that Kyrgios shouldn’t be excused for what he said, believing that this punishment would teach him a lesson for life. “I hope the governing body does not stand for this”.
Djokovic took only 54 minutes to finish off the 35th-ranked Sock. “I’ve watched him many times before, but it’s different standing on the court”.
“There s obviously certain things in tennis, in our sport”.
“You have to go on court and you have to do the right things”.
“It will stay in the locker room”, he said. “What happened yesterday doesn’t help with that”.
Kyrgios, who is well known for his outbursts off court and profanity on it, made a jibe about the Swiss player’s apparent girlfriend during the second set of their second round match on Wednesday. Kei Nishikori of Japan, who is seeded fourth, served 10 aces on his way to seeing off the Belgian David Goffin 6-4, 6-4.
“It was a night match, I was feeling good”.
Cue this reply from Wawrinka: “When I read before the match, he was ready, excited for the challenge”.
“You know that Stan did say that Nick was faking an injury last time they played and Nick was actually very sick”.
“And regardless of whether he sidesteps it, I think the way he behaves on court he has big problems”.
