Nicki Minaj Announces Biographical ABC Comedy Series
Shooting for Minaj’s upcoming series will begin this winter in the Queens borough of New York.
Minaj will be holding a nationwide search to find an actress to play her younger self, and of course, will be writing raps for her younger self to perform, so you can be sure it’ll have Minaj pinkprints all over it.
According to celebrity website Deadline, the as-yet-untitled comedy will focus on Minaj’s early life, tracking her family’s immigration from Trinidad to the U.S.in the 1990s.
Though the new TV show may seem like a big branching out for Minaj, this will not be her first foray in to the world of acting.
Overnight, ABC – the United States network famous for, in recent years, Modern Family and Fresh Off The Boat – announced that Nicki Minaj will be producing a family sitcom based on her own childhood in Queens, NY. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an awesome group of people to give the world something really special”.
“Nicki is an worldwide superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is”, said Karey Burke, ABC Family’s executive vice president programming and development. She previously voice acted in Ice Age: Continental Drift and the film The Other Woman.
Kate Angelo (Sex Tape, Will and Grace, Bernie Mac) penned the pilot and will write and executive produce the series. The show is set to star Minaj herself, while she will also be tackling an Executive Producer role.
News of Nicki’s “surprise” announcement came just as she had wrapped up several appearances and a performance during Milan fashion week, which was preceded by the unveiling of an intimate GQ spread with boyfriend Meek Mill….so, what could possibly be next?
