Among them is big data company Cloudera, which promises to provide training to 1,000 precision medicine researchers over the next three years and offer free subscriptions to the company’s platforms to 50 institutions working in the field.

VUMC is receiving a $1.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health under the Precision Medicine Cohort Program, which will work toward the best ways of engaging with potential volunteers and test methods of data collection. “The most valuable precision medicine strategies keep in focus population health strategies-this is how the University of Utah views its charge and this is what Recursion Pharmaceutical seeks to apply to drug discovery and development at scale”. The Precision Medicine Initiative offers the opportunity for Recursion to partner with other top-tier researchers to demonstrate the way in which the healthcare industry must evolve to incorporate innovative technologies.

Ramos, associate vice president for precision health sciences, director of the UA Center for Applied Genetics and Genomic Medicine and an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, to advance precision health research and clinical care in Arizona with special emphasis in the adoption of precision medicine approaches and tools to address health disparities.
The administration will also announce new commitments from a variety of medical groups, medical centers, and private companies.
A new guidance document will explain how volunteers can make their health data available for research without running into trouble under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which is supposed to protect the privacy of health information. “And my hope is that this becomes the foundation, the architecture, where about 10 years from now we can look back and say that we have revolutionized medicine in areas like cancer, or Alzheimer’s or some of the diseases that cause so much pain and suffering for so many families all across the country”.
