Nikon expands KeyMission actioncam family with two rugged new models
Previewed at CES 2016, the ruggedized KeyMission 360 is the first Nikon camera capable of full 360-degree video in 4K Ultra HD.
A Nikon SnapBridge 360/170 app enables photographers to shoot remotely or connect and share completely stitched full 360-degree images from a compatible smart device.
The KeyMission 170 is your classic GoPro-style action camera that records UHD video, while the KeyMission 80 is basically a rugged life-logging device – a mobile phone with just the video capturing capabilities for consumers. Nikon also launched two more action cameras during Photokina 2016 – the KeyMission 170 and KeyMission 80, which will also go on sale next month for $399.95 (approximately Rs.26,800) and $279.95 (approximately Rs. 18,800) respectively. Like the KeyMission 360, both are waterproof and shockproof.
Nikon said the KeyMission 360 is compatible with a variety of optional mounts and accessories. It offers electronic vibration reduction for 1080p footage, and it has a rear LCD so you can frame shots and review footage without reaching for your smartphone. Video-editing software for Mac and Windows is included.
Last up is the incredibly small $280 KeyMission 80, which at 3.5 x 1.8 x 0.6-inches and weighing 2.7 ounces, lets you take this camera pretty much anywhere.
The KeyMission 80 is billed as a hands-free, Full HD 1080p action cam equipped with a 12-megapixel sensor and an 80-degree F/2.0 lens. It has a rounded rectangular body, with the f2.8 lens offset to the side.
The compact form factor of the 360 is waterproof to 98 feet, shock-proof to 6.6 feet and freeze-proof to 14 degrees F. Using a 12-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 25 mm f/2.0 lens, it can capture 1080/30p HD video with an 80-degree field-of-view. Apart from this feature, the camera also packs a built-in non-touch LCD (non-touch), stereo mic, a usual tripod socket and the Nikon EN-EL12 battery.
The 360 will be price at $499, and capable of capturing 4K ultra HD footage in 360 degree view with in camera stitching. It is waterproof to 10 metres, shockproof to 2.0 metres, cold-proof to -10° C and dustproof.
Nikon India distributes markets and services the complete range of Nikon imaging products, the newly introduced Nikon Sport Optics & Nikon Instruments.
On the front face of the KeyMission is a 1.75-inch (4.4cm) 230,000-dot touchscreen, but you’ll be more likely to control the camera through the SnapBridge app on smartphones.
Nikon sees the KeyMission 80 as something people will clip to a bag strap, keeping it always at the ready and using it over their smartphone’s camera – a big bet in an era when smartphone cameras are really good.
