Nintendo Releases The NES Classic Edition, Sells Out Instantly
The Eastport Plaza Walmart had 10 miniature NES Classics, Nintendo’s nostalgia-inducing miniature Nintendo Entertaniment System, to sell on Friday morning. When you put that release date dead in the middle of the holiday season, things can be quite a bit trickier.
For a lot of people, Amazon’s listing of the NES Classic Edition was just a white error page. Some consoles are listed in the $200 to $300 range, and one is even listed for $9,000.
Most Nintendo enthusiasts eager for a trip down memory lane saw their desires thwarted by an unexpectedly small supply of consoles coming to stores.
The console has 30 NES games built-in, is created to look like a tiny version of the original NES, and comes with a modern version of the original NES controller.
Angela said while she was “one of the lucky ones”, others went to the next level to buy one.
And while owners can play these classics directly on an HDTV the same way we did on analog TVs decades ago, the new NES Classic Edition crowd receives an additional bonus: the ability to save the state of a game at any time.
You can order the NES Classic Edition from Amazon today at 5PM ET, but it is expected to sell out in a flash, so get ready! If you were hoping to stop by the store after work and pick up your little NES, you’re out of luck.
So stand by, and hopefully Nintendo can make good on its promise to ramp up supply in time to meet demand heading into the holiday shopping weeks.
The de facto video games store also decided against offering preorders for NES Classic. This morning the headlines were flooded with stories of journalists and eager consumers standing in line waiting for Targets, Walmarts, Best Buys, and Game Stops to open up. Please make sure you’ve updated your credit card and shipping information to help you move quickly through the checkout process.
More than a thousand people have left plenty of reviews – many of which are negative – because they were unable to get their hands on the NES Classic Edition.
