Nintendo’s TVii Service Will Shut Down 11th August
We sincerely thank you for all of your engagement within the community and the Nintendo TVii service.
Once one of the cooler features promised by the WiiU, but in practice, cumbersome and clunky, the system’s TVii service will be shutting down on August 11th, according to a post on the feature’s Miiverse.
That being said, the free service had been swirling down a figurative toilet for some time.
The announcement follows another Nintendo UK made earlier this year, noting Nintendo TVii would not be coming to Europe as originally planned, citing “the extremely complex nature of localising multiple television services across a diverse range of countries with varied licensing systems”. The Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, and Crunchyroll apps will continue to operate separately.
If you are not aware of this or never used this Nintendo TVii, then let me explain you a bit.
The service got off to a rocky start after missing the Wii U console’s November 2012 launch, in spite of the console adding a giant “TV” button to its gamepad.
For those who are hearing about the TVii service for the first time, basically what TVii does is that it allows users to find, watch, and interact with TV content via the Wii U GamePad’s controller.
