Nintendo Switch: Friend Codes Still Required to Add Some Players
The online play notification comes after you sign into your Nintendo account through the Switch, which has only been available since the day one update was made available. When you open the eShop, the Switch will confirm the active user (a nod to the eight potential user accounts you can create on a single console).
Since the Nintendo Switch was unveiled, we haven’t seen the menu except for a glimpse here and there. At launch there will be a 300 person limit on friend lists, Nintendo has confirmed. “The system update downloads in the background, is created to install quickly and doesn’t disrupt gameplay”, Nintendo explained.
Developer Shin’en Multimedia has just released their launch trailer for the title which you can view below.
Nintendo first introduced Friend Codes with the Nintendo DS and has defended the system by saying it’s a necessary security measure for controlling whom players, particularly younger ones, interact with online. Something has clearly changed between then and now, so perhaps this is a temporary implementation?
Considering that Nintendo estimates it will ship around 2 million Switch consoles to retailers by the end of March, these first year sales estimates suggest a slow start for the new console. Rather than a gamertag-like username these awkward 12-character codes are still being used to add new friends. Even though “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is one of them and is fantastic, gamers are still hoping for more game titles. And so the question here is; will the Nintendo Switch sell well unlike the Nintendo Wii U?
Do friend codes bother you?
