Nintendo Switch Will Sell As Well As The Wii, Nintendo President
In a response to many, Kimishima acknowledges the fact that the launch of the Nintendo Switch is “weak”, but emphasizing that launch of the console is just the start for the hybrid experience. Speaking to Japanese business publication Nikkei he said the service would cost between 2000 and 3000 yen (£14 – £21) per year. It comes preloaded with 30 classic games and connects to a display using HDMI. This will grant Switch owners access to multiplayer features and a free SNES game rental each month.
The only main difference is that both PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold include several free, often full-price games each month for subscribers to keep for the duration of their membership. More than 70 publishers are now working with Nintendo on over 100 games, and Nintendo said recently that it is still receiving development requests from additional companies. Nintendo’s planned prices imply roughly half of that.
Kimishima says that the paid model means Nintendo can “fully commit” to consumers. Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima recently responded to the negative feedback they have been receiving, and defended the company’s strategy for the console’s launching. With the Nintendo Wii U console and now the new Nintendo Switch not quite living up to the hype, the firm may have exhausted its regular avenues to rake in the moolah.
It might be hard to believe since it’s impossible to find, but Nintendo has revealed that the NES Classic Edition has sold 1.5 million units globally.
