Nintendo won’t talk Nintendo Switch games or specs until 2017

This summer it scored another hit with the Pokemon Go app, giving a boost to a Nintendo-created brand, although the game was developed by a USA firm and the financial impact on the Japanese company’s bottom line will be limited.

Nintendo revealed its hybrid console the Nintendo Switch yesterday, and we finally got a few concrete answers. Anyhow, old games can still be downloaded and played without any problem. We may be looking at a console that will overshadow the PlayStation 4 and XBox One if the cards are played right. The Wii-U Gamepad was a touchscreen and included a stylus as well.

So, let’s put the Switch into focus.

When you get home you can insert the tablet back into the dock and your game will be displayed on your TV. While NVidia has given little about what processor they’ve provided for Nintendo, they already have one chip, the Tegra X1, which is capable of 4K output. Do you like it more than the Wii U or would you have rather seen a console to take on the PS4 and Xbox 1? And despite being a new platform following the less than stellar Wii U, there will be plenty of games to choose from.

The Switch also succeeds because it is very much the reverse of Nintendo’s current Wii U system, according to Time’s Matt Peckham.

The other side of that argument is that it’s a machine that simply doesn’t need to exist. The Nintendo 3DS has a commanding lead of almost 60 million units versus the Sony PlayStation Vita, which only managed to sell 13 million units. There is no update on the screen resolution, but we are hoping a 1080p display. While U.S. -listed shares of Nintendo were up initially, the stock is now down 3% since the Switch announcement. It is $7.99 on the New Nintendo 3DS.

Switch games you buy at brick-and-mortar stores will come on cartridges, which offer plenty of advantages over optical media when it comes to gaming on the go.

“They have tremendous IP [intellectual property, or product lines], and they’ve always had a lock on the portable market with the DS and Game Boy lines….” Seeing Skyrim and National Basketball Association 2K17 in the Switch trailer certainly sets the right tone, but it has to build on that.

The big question at this point is just how powerful is it going to be? To some these will sound like limitations, but if true they will each help offset the battery cost of running the screen and graphics tech non stop.
