Nissan launches all new NP300 Navara pick-up
In-line with Nissan innovation, the new NP300 Navara introduces an array of new technology. In a sector that has traditionally been slow to adopt the very latest in comfort and safety features, it sets a new benchmark for affordable technology. Great engines need great transmissions, and once again the new NP300 Navara excels.
Providing the power is a new 2.3-litre dCi diesel engine which Nissan claim is up to 24% more efficient than the old 2.5-litre power unit it replaces, although no official figures have been released.
Nissan says the top end version introduces twin turbocharging to the pick-up sector and delivers “exceptionally low running costs and substantially reduced Carbon dioxide emissions”.
Though don’t be fooled into thinking the Navara has been transformed into a poncey Kensington cruiser; Nissan has also upgraded the load carrying and towing ability of the new pick-up, with payload ratings in excess of one tonne across the range and an impressive towing capacity of 3500kg.
Inside, Nissan has also given the Navara a makeover with a sculptured look that creates more space, better ergonomics, spinal support front seats, climate control and new ventilation system for the back seat passengers. To achieve that, multi-link rear suspension has been fitted to improve comfort while a new leaf spring design has been applied to the front, reducing road noise and improving approach and departure angles – useful for tackling the rough stuff.
As standard, the Navara is a six-speed manual although seven speed autos will be an option on both two and four-wheel-drive variants. Customers will also have the choice of two- or four-wheel drive.
Nissan has slightly increased the length of the Double Cab’s cargo bed, from 59 to 62 inches.
One of the Navara’s main rivals, Mitsubishi’s new L200 returns 42.8mpg and emits 173g/km of Carbon dioxide from its 178hp 2.4-litre diesel unit.
According to Nissan, improving the vehicle’s refinement was a key element of the Navara’s development.
The pickup truck has taken numerous design cues from its crossover siblings across the automaker’s offer, has bundled numerous new technologies such as NissanConnect, the Aroudn View Moniter and LED headlights.
“Nissan pick-ups have often been the lifeblood of communities and a trusted work partner to businesses and tradespeople”, said Ponz Pandikuthira, director of light commercial vehicles for Nissan Europe.
Final specification, efficiency and pricing details are set to be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch date.
