Nitish Kumar Meets PM Modi For First Time Since Bihar Win
Nitish Kumar on Tuesday welcomed the Prime Minister’s Bihar package of Rs 1.25 lakh crore and the additional investment of Rs 40,000 crore, and demanded their honest implementation for development of the state. In democratic system, mandate is given to work for the public.
Reiterating his support to the GST Bill, Mr Kumar told reporters outside Parliament, “We are in favour of the GST Bill”.
Nitish said “when Congress is saying something, then it must be well thought-out. But when Congress is saying so it must have some meaning, otherwise why the party will say so?” he asked.
“It is the government’s responsibility to run Parliament”. There was no particular issue involved in the meeting.
“I leave it to you (Speaker) to constitute a joint committee of members of House of Bihar legislature or the legislative assembly only for monitoring of the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Bihar package”, he said. “I am hopeful it will be implemented”.
Kumar-led grand alliance of JD(U)-RJD-Congress had actually trounced the BJP-led NDA after a bitter political campaign which saw Kumar and Modi introducing a no-holds-barred attack on each other.
He also said he has met Assam leader Prafulla Mahanta, who is an “old friend”. According to the JD-U leader, who once had led a government supported by BJP, thw two saffron parties were raking up the temple issue from time to time when everybody knew that the construction can take place only on the basis of court order or mutual agreement between contending parties.
