Nittany Lions deliver statement victory, pummel Wolverines 42-13
It was tied in the third quarter before Killins bolted down the right sideline for a 79-yard touchdown run to put the Knights ahead for good. “When you got your opportunity, you got to score”. What No. 2 Penn State controlled on Saturday night was MI. May as well chant it. Penn State will have trouble with the Wolverines’ No. 1 ranked defense in the first half, but will eventually pull away late to win 17-9.
“Their d-man fell, and I was able to pick it up”, Davidson said. I’m definitely not conventional, so I’m going with MI in a stunner 24-23.
You could hear the words at field level, with time remaining in the fourth: “Ohio State”. They host No. 19 Michigan on Saturday night and play No. 3 Ohio State and No. 18 Michigan State in back-to-back road games. Penn State had 14 points. No. 2 Penn State’s 42-13 win over No. 19 MI would have its snags, but as running back Saquon Barkley grew his gathering legend further by running 69 yards into agreeable night air for a 7-0 lead, that run gave a heap of hints.
And even when they hit a second-quarter lull after their 14-0 lead was placed in jeopardy, Trace McSorley showed he has a competitive heart as big as anyone who has ever played here.
Desmond Howard, a former MI player, was booed as he picked the Wolverines. “We should do it every week”. The Nittany Lions held MI to 269 total yards and just 13 points.
Penn State has risen up the rankings and finds themselves in the number two spot in the country.
Rushing yards were doubled; passing yards, not close. If Michigan lines up and runs the football, they’re going to have a chance. And missed an extra point. By halftime, McSorley had thrown for 159 yards. Sacks? Seven by Penn State, two for the Wolverines.
Clearly, Penn State was something else.
Unlike the signs, most of the cheering stayed focused on Penn State.
There’s no letting up around here.
A Beaver Stadium record crowd of 110,823, beyond rabid, looked on.
(5) Wisconsin 38, Maryland 13: Jonathan Taylor ran for a touchdown and broke the 1,000-yard mark for the season, Alex Hornibrook passed for two scores the Badgers (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) defeated the Terrapins (3-4, 1-3) in Madison, Wisconsin.
“You will literally not find that atmosphere anywhere. people say in college football, but I’d say anywhere”.
Except Barkley cut hard against the grain and found nothing but green in front of him – 69 yards untouched to the end zone to stun the Wolverines. “It’s not the exact same guys”. With more than 100,000 fans dressed in white, Beaver Stadium virtually glows as night falls in Happy Valley.
“You forgot 49-10?” the letterman said.
Penn State was embarrassed in this game past year, losing 49-10 in the opening Big Ten game for both schools. It’s does make you wonder how the rest of it plays out.
