NJ lottery ticketholders win $50000 from Powerball drawing
While the current US$1.5 billion prize is by far the largest ever up for grabs in North America, Spain’s El Gordo lottery, or “the Fat One”, had a prize pool of US$2.45 billion in December 2015. Forty-four U.S. states participate, as well as the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
Counting Sunday’s purchases, MI players already have bought almost 3.3 million tickets for Wednesday night’s drawing and a chance to win the world-record $1.4 billion jackpot. While no one was lucky enough to take home the grand prize, there was still plenty of cash doled out.
“Should a non-US citizen win a lottery prize, they are subject to federal withholding taxes for non-US citizens, which is 30 per cent of their winnings”, the website states.
“I didn’t win (Saturday) but then nobody else did either”, said Mark Boutin of Starksboro. “This Powerball jackpot is not only a life-changing opportunity for any person, but also it has allowed the Lottery to generate over $70 million in revenue for Florida students and schools”.
Previously, players chose five numbers out of 59, but Powerball made a switch in October, so that players now choose five numbers from 69 numbers.
REUTERS/Philip SearsIf you’re exhausted of hearing about the record-breaking Powerball jackpot, buckle-in because its not going anywhere. Since Hawaii residents are taxed on all income made out of state or country, the same holds true for Powerball or lottery winnings. Each individual government chooses how to spend the money they take in.
Michael Pfaff of Hanover wasn’t holding out much hope Monday for picking the winning numbers, but he still came into Turkey Hill to get his tickets.
This is false. Your odds for each ticket are 1 in 292.2 million regardless of the jackpot size or how many other people play.
Excitement is growing internationally, with thousands of Canadians pouring into the U.S.to try their luck, reports CBS News correspondent DeMarco Morgan.
