NJ Muslim group condemns Paris attacks
It was feared that the Eagles of Death Metal band members may be in danger since they were set to perform at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris Friday night when the deadly hostage situation occurred, but fortunately they are all safe. “We, the Muslim Community of Northeast Tennessee, are committed to do our part”. We must not let these terrorists divide us, otherwise the terrorists will win.
“#TerrorismHasNoReligion this is so important”, a Twitter user named Doug said, adding, “There is no religion which suggests these atrocities are okay – they use religion as a mask”. “This brutal inhumane attack should be condemned in the strongest possible terms”, Ahmad said.
Despite many studies on terrorism and interfaith meetings, the so-called global war on terror is far from won. Just as believers of various faiths do not relate to cults ordering entire congregations to commit suicide, relatively few Muslims relate to violence-based jihad.
We, meanwhile, are welcoming enormous numbers of immigrants from Islamic countries, and have gone “open borders” so that anyone can enter the United States from the south. What reason is there to think that Islamic terrorists will not enter across our unguarded borders and organize attacks similar to, or worse than, what France experienced tonight?
“We urge people of all faiths and those with no faith to stand firm in unity and solidarity”. We must remain vigilant against all hate crimes.
Even with a declaration professing “progressive Islam” and “Islam Nusantara” by our largest Muslim organization, as the world’s “largest Muslim democracy” our credibility is lowered by each report of discrimination and intimidation that takes place in Indonesia against those who differ from the majority. We ask the American Muslim community around the nation to hold candle light vigils in memory of the victims and in support of their families.
