No.1 pick Goff to make first Rams start
“It’s been a long time, feels like, since I’ve gone out there and played, and I’m excited to get back out there and play”.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Rams quarterback Jared Goff, will make his regular season debut against the Miami Dolphins at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Sunday.
“I want to start by apologizing to all the US military members, their families, and the fans who I offended by my actions on Sunday”, Evans said in a statement.
The Rams organisation were in the process of moving to Los Angeles from St. Louis, and had decided that none of their current crop of quarterbacks – Nick Foles, Case Keenum and Sean Mannion – were the face of the franchise’s new chapter.
It was the third game in which the Rams’ offense failed to score a touchdown, which prompted Fisher to joke Monday that his team was an “offensive juggernaut” and 2-1 in games when the Rams had not produced a TD.
Fisher said the Rams won’t have to reduce their playbook with Goff under center, and could actually expand it because of Goff’s attributes, which including a stronger arm than Keenum. We’re all competitors, and Case is a competitive person. He also realizes the raw economic imperatives faced by an National Football League franchise that traded six draft picks to move up to get a quarterback with the No. 1 overall choice.
“We’re committed to this”, he added. Keenum said that even though he was aware of Goff’s presence and what it meant, he didn’t look over his shoulder this season and “took ownership” of the Rams’ offense. “We’ll get him prepared to play”.
The Rams are averaging an NFL-worst 15.4 points. We definitely have a big-time job to do this week, just like every week.
Spruce has spent a lot of time with his fellow rookie in and out of the Rams football headquarters at California Lutheran Unversity in Thousand Oaks.
He discussed the quarterback switch Wednesday, per Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com: “Honestly, I wasn’t happy”. “It was never my intention as I have tremendous respect for the men and women who serve our country”.
But after Goff didn’t beat out Keenum for the job in the preseason, Fisher repeatedly declined to promote the rookie over the past two months even while his offense struggled on nearly a weekly basis, saying he wanted Goff to be in an ideal position to succeed.
Despite expectations to the contrary, Fisher held firm to the vision he laid out shortly after the draft.
The pressure was building in recent weeks.
Dilfer – who has coached Goff periodically since he was 17-years-old when Goff attended the Elite 11 camp – wasn’t shy about how he thinks the Rams coaching staff will hurt Goff. Jeff Fisher is the poster boy for mediocrity and is constantly lambasted by nearly every pundit the football world over. “Preparing to be a two, preparing to be a play away from going in”. If he can go, we’ll be happen to have him out there.
