No. 18 Auburn can’t stop Fournette in loss to No. 13 LSU
Fournette rushed for 228 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday against Auburn, setting a new career high for rushing yards. Miles was pleased with Harris, overall, on Saturday.
“That team didn’t necessarily have that whole package”, Miles said. “He’s a freak of nature. One of them comes in and it’s like we don’t miss a beat”. His 2-yard touchdown run near the end of the third quarter gave the Tigers the lead for good.
On the game’s first play, Fournette raced 71 yards to the Auburn 4 on a simple dive off left tackle, and he piled up 169 yards on 15 first-half carries. And Fournette should get his hands ready now for the December 12 ceremony in New York City.
A week after almost losing to an FCS team, No. 18 Auburn was beaten down 45-21 by No. 13 LSU and tailback Leonard Fournette on Saturday. Fournette started slowly and turned a few folks off with a “Heisman pose” after a touchdown against Sam Houston State during his second game.
As NOLA.com’s Jim Kleinpeter details, Fournette now leads the nation in rushing at 193 yards per game. “He did some things today where I said “wow”. Tackling him low is a bad idea, and hitting him above the waist simply doesn’t work. “He just went over top, and I tried to keep leverage”.
But when the positives from a ranked conference game involve a freshman running back and a punter, the negatives were clearly more prevalent.
“It was just insane”, Pocic said.
Winning the Heisman, however, will not be easy for Fournette. “And when he takes three”, Miles mused, but didn’t finish the sentence.
If he had gotten to play in LSU’s cancelled season opener against what would have been an overmatched McNeese State team, he could easily be approaching 600 yards and 10 scores this year.
“There are a couple guys on Auburn who turned the tackle down”, CBS analyst Gary Danielson said after the play.
If you spot an interesting article about LSU we don’t have listed, feel free to add it to the comments section below. A lot can change between now and then, but Fournette gives LSU an offensive talent no one in the SEC can match.
“I laughed at it. Words are words. It didn’t motivate me, but it motivated everybody else”.
“It’s not about the Heisman”, Fournette said.
Miles intimated that Fournette may have been motivated by Ford.
“Leonard just wears people down”, LSU right guard William Clapp said.
LSU quickly fell behind 17-0 in the first quarter as the offense went three-and-out the first three times it had the ball. “That other stuff will come”.
As a team, LSU rushed for 411 yards, and another 74 yards passing with a conservative and extremely effective approach. The sophomore ran all over Auburn’s defense in leading LSU to a 45-21 victory in Tiger Stadium. On his 39-yard scoring run late in the first half that put LSU up 24-0, Fournette barreled over cornerback Blake Countess as though he were a speed bump. “I had no question my team was going to be very comfortable in that weather – myself as well”.
Godchaux had two of LSU’s five sacks. We are going to get back and see how he is doing.
We have to start with Leonard Fournette’s line.
For his National Football League potential, we’d love to see him catch some more passes, but at this point, it’s probably nothing to be concerned about.
