No. 2 Michigan stays unbeaten with 32-23 win at Michigan St
Michigan State: This is the longest losing streak for the Spartans since they started 0-7 in 1982 not including forfeits from 1994.
“It was just icing on the cake”, MI quarterback Wilton Speight said.
Unless we’re all off on our math here, Dantonio and his staff missed the mark by a mile here, even if they were off by one point. Jabrill-Peppers and the Wolverines are ready for revenge.
The game was hard fought from the outset.
And in only their second game for interim coach Gerad Parker, the Boilermakers will be trying to protect quarterback David Blough with a starting offensive line that will include sophomore Kirk Barron at center, redshirt freshman Matt McCann at right tackle and possibly freshman Michael Mendez at left tackle. The Spartans kept MI from running away with an easy one thanks to two late touchdowns, but don’t expect any apologies from Harbaugh for the way his team picked up its first victory in East Lansing since 2007.
Michigan State, meanwhile, has lost five straight for the first time since 1991.
Coming in to this game much was made about Michigan’s dominating defense.
“We just need to go out there and have fun”, IN linebacker Tegray Scales said. Lewerke again led the offense deep into MI territory, but as they did so many times on Saturday, once again the Spartans failed to score.
They also played very well, too.
“We showed poise – and shout-out to the guys for hanging tough”, Peppers said of the Spartans. “We were excited, though”. Amara Darboh led in receiving with 99 yards in five catches while Jehu Chesson had 44 yards in three receptions. “We just wanted to come in here and bring Paul back”. The Wolverines welcome Maryland to town next Saturday. It’s picked up by Michigan States’s Jalen Watts-Jackson, and he scores!
The Wolverines didn’t punt a single time in the first half, and they poured it on with a balanced attack thanks to Speight and Smith. “But, the fact that is was a rivalry game and we were able to come out and hit them in the mouth offense line wise and running back wise it opened up the passing game”. “It wasn’t like it was a surprise”. MSU will be up for the game, especially playing at home. The Spartans will travel to IL next Saturday.
“Well be talking about this play 100 years from now, if they’re still talking about college football, they’ll be talking about that play 100 years from now, that’s how big it’s going to be”, Bacon added. Like Penn State, the Buckeyes get a more manageable draw this weekend when they host Northwestern.
Peppers’ delight seemed to be heightened by the taunting and catcalling he faced throughout the game. That’s why I always say it’s all-inclusive. “Sometimes I listen to see what they’re saying”.
Asked if he could remember the funniest – or strangest – thing he had heard all day, Peppers thought about it for a couple of seconds and then laughed.
The Spartans, similarly, couldn’t repeat 2015. He’s pulled off his own turnaround of a MI team that won five games just two years ago.
“Those last couple seconds, they’re still boiling”.
Thanks to the two early fumbles and a short punt, Minnesota started first-half drives at the IL 20, 9 and 49, and all ended with touchdowns. You knew whoever was the underdog was going to play above expectations, you didn’t have to get fired up for those games.
“I’m going to keep scratching”.
“Brian plays fearless”, Price said. He got one, on a day the Wolverines finally got theirs.
