No. 2 North Carolina loses again, falls 80-76 to Notre Dame

The Irish, ranked No. 7 in the Lacrosse Magazine poll, opens their 2016 season on Saturday when Notre Dame travels south to face two-time defending Atlantic Sun Conference champion Jacksonville.
No. 1 Oklahoma also lost, falling 80-69 to Kansas State.
Paige leads the Tar Heels with 12 points and has made 4-of-5 3-pointers.
North Carolina: It was the fourth straight double-double for Johnson and his 13th overall this season…. According to STATS, it was the first time the top two teams in the country lost to unranked schools on the same day since January 21, 2006, when No. 1 Duke lost to Georgetown and No. 2 Florida was defeated by Tennessee.
The Irish eventually extended the lead to 38-23 on another jumper by Allen, but were held scoreless over the final 2:57 of the half as the Wolfpack closed to 38-25. His 12 points are the most he’s had in the first half of any game this season. A 3-pointer by Lindsay Allen sparked a 7-0 run by the Irish. North Carolina is 3-4 in road games this season…. The Tar Heels have lost their first two games of a three-game road swing….

The Irish struggled defensively in a 79-70 loss to No. 17 Miami that wasn’t as close as the score, with Notre Dame trailing by 20 with eight minutes left.
“After talking to my family and thinking things over, I am excited to say I will be committing to the University of North Carolina”, he wrote. “So I fully expect that we’ll even play at a higher level of intensity than we did on Monday night against Louisville just because we got it handed to ourselves last game”.
