No. 2 Tar Heels survive Hokies upset bid
North Carolina lost a 20-point lead but made enough plays in the final moments to prevail in a tense 75-70 victory against Virginia Tech on Saturday at Cassell Coliseum.
Atlantic Coast Conference officials made a decision to move up the basketball game between UNC Chapel Hill at Virginia Tech on Sunday.
Six of Johnson’s 17 rebounds came on the offensive end. It was their only lead of the game. The Tar Heels controlled the first 14 minutes and led by 20 points with a little less than six minutes to play before halftime. The Hokies are 3-0 at home in ACC games this season and might have an outside shot at pulling off the upset if they can score another 80+ points per game.
That helped offset a day when the Tar Heels shot 37.8 percent (28 of 74) and made just 3 of 23 from beyond the 3-point arc. Joel Berry II is 7-of-12 from 3-point range over the last three contests, although his nine-point effort against Wake Forest left him shy of 10 points for the first time since December 12.ABOUT VIRGINIA TECH (12-7, 4-2): The Hokies are already north of their win total from last season (11-22) and won four of their first five league games before a narrow defeat at Notre Dame. North Carolina only has two players with at least 20 made 3-pointers this season – Berry (32) and Paige (25).3. Chris Clarke missed his eighth straight game after undergoing surgery December 29 to fix a broken foot. When we watch UNC vs VT live streaming or on TV today, the Tar Heels will be looking to get that percentage back up over 30.
Virginia Tech: plays at home against Louisville on Wednesday. He was averaged 10.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
– With its archrival in a tailspin, North Carolina has re-staked its claim as the premier basketball program on Tobacco Road.
The Tar Heels are now 17-2 overall and 6-0 in the ACC. The team has won 10 games in a row and could be the nation’s new No. 1 team with a victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies.
