No. 21 Utah tries to regroup after falling out of contention
Here’s what the rest of the year will look like.
1 USC (8-3, 7-2; last week: No. 1) – The Trojans are the best team in the Pac-12, but need some help from the Utes so they can prove it in the conference championship.
MI will be the talk of the college football world on Saturday, but Rivalry Week always has a bunch of fun games to watch.
Leading that charge is Joe Williams, a senior running back, who retired two games into the season. He noted that a 10-win season doesn’t replace the motivation for a championship.
The Utes are down 10 spots to No. 22 following a heartbreaking loss to OR, therefore ending its Pac-12 title and College Football Playoff hopes. This season, the Big Ten is nearly certain of sending either MI or Ohio State – or even Wisconsin or Penn State in a less-likely but still-possible scenario – to the playoff, while Washington has a chance to represent the Pac-12. But a win against a Pac-12 recruiting foe never hurts. Washington State trailed 28-10 in the fourth quarter but Cougars quarterback Jeff Tuel led his team to a pair of touchdown drives.
Meanwhile, as Washington took down Utah on Sunday, No. 9 UCLA defeated OR in four sets to move to 14-4 in the Pac-12.
Liufau threw for 345 yards, rushed for 108 more and scored three touchdowns as No. 12 Colorado beat No. 20 Washington State 38-24 on Saturday in a matchup of unlikely Pac-12 division leaders.
In other words, the victor of the Apple Cup on Friday in Pullman wins the division and marches into the league championship game. He also recorded a sack against Washington State, giving him 9 1/2 on the season. Washington heads to Pullman to face Washington State on Saturday to wrap up its regular season schedule, and UCLA will face rival USC at home for its last match.
At No. 6 in the CFP ranking, the Huskies have a chance to climb a little higher with No. 5 Louisville’s upset loss.
Jones also had a team-high three service aces.
Colorado is one win away from finishing a worst-to-first season. You’re competitive and you want to win and that’s who you are.
Two weeks ago, Utah won at Arizona State, 49-26, easily covering at minus-four. Utah lost to Cal and OR, while Stanford beat both convincingly. And they have failed each and every time. Stanford players hold the Stanford axe after a 45-31 win over California in an NCAA college football game Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, in Berkeley, Calif. It’s worth noting the Rose Bowl Game has sole discretion, but in this scenario Colorado is a fairly clear choice despite the projected loss to Washington.
Earlier, Leach rolled the dice on fourth-and-1 at his own 41 and Jamal Morrow rewarded his faith by gaining 30 yards. Stanford has changed quarterbacks, found offensive rhythm, and become a better overall team. And the Huskies did it by beating ASU in Husky Stadium, something they had not done since 1997. Instead, I’m saying there is a chance.
The showdown between Washington and Washington in the Apple Cup on Friday night will decide the Pac-12 North. Utah needs to win in Boulder. A trip to the PAC-12 title game hangs in the balance for the Buffaloes. Then, Stanford’s fate will be decided by the committee.
Bajema had her second straight successful match at the net, good for nine blocks against an outmatched Utah offense.
