No. 25 West Virginia ends No. 6 Virginia’s win streak, 66-57

The news was oddly revealed during the first quarter of the Mountaineers’ home game against the Baylor Bears on Saturday.

The game was hardly what you expected, with all WVU had to play for and with Baylor riding a five-game losing streak and playing for a lame-duck coach and coaching staff. Howard completed 10 of 26 passes for a season-low 111 yards. West Virginia turned those miscues into 18 points on the other end, compared to just five points off turnovers for Virginia.

Both West Virginia and Baylor hope to gain momentum heading into their bowl games when the Mountaineers host the Bears in each team’s regular season finale. The drive culminated with a touchdown on fourth down when Daikiel Shorts Jr. pulled in a four-yard reception from Howard at 3:52 of the second and a 14-10 Baylor lead.

With WVU’s 24-21 win against Baylor on December 3, fans have one more chance to cheer on Mountaineers during the 2016 season.

Darius Thompson scored 14 points to lead Virginia (7-1), but the Cavaliers never got into any kind of rhythm offensively.

Williams rushed for 90 yards on 11 carries in the first half but couldn’t play in the second half due to a bruised knee.
