No. 4 Alabama routs No. 20 Mississippi State, 31
Dak Prescott was 23-of-44 for 303 yards for the Bulldogs (7-3, 3-3). He tossed one interception – a pick by Alabama cornerback Marlon Humphrey.
Saban also called the Mississippi State offense “very, very challenging”.
This time Alabama didn’t get the block, but Saban knew the return potential was there.
Even the Crimson Tide’s coach couldn’t avoid his team’s pass rush. Late in the game, Wilson was injured and carted of the field, although afterward coach Dan Mullen said that he did not believe the injury was serious. “That’s what they got me back there for and I want to do my job”. Dak Prescott threw for 300 yards but the Bulldogs never found the end zone. All three of the Crimson Tide’s offensive touchdowns in its 31-6 win over the Bulldogs came on explosive plays. A margin that only continue to grow throughout the game until finally the team ended the night with a 52 point win over the bulldogs. “We get our team back on track and looking forward to hosting Arkansas this coming Saturday”.
The Crimson Tide have proven they can once again play with the best, the lone loss on the season came at home to Ole Miss. They were going to force the quarterback and receivers to make plays. Mullen would later elect to attempt a 50-yard field goal that fell way short. Alabama jumpstarted its offense with Cyrus Jones’ 69-yard TD punt return, followed by a 60-yard Jake Coker TD pass and a 74-yard Derrick Henry TD run, all in the second quarter. I don’t think he got to the 20 yard line a single time.
Richie Brown, LB, Miss St: The inside linebacker will need to have a productive day and be able to make plays against Alabama’s talented tailbacks.
Houston continued its momentum by opening the second half with a 10-play, 75-yard touchdown drive, capped by a seven-yard Kenneth Farrow scoring jaunt.
Graves added a 31-yard field goal to make it 14-3 with 6:10 left in the second quarter. The first touchdown stretched the lead to 21-3 and the final score put the game on ice.
Of course, Henry wasn’t done, capping his 204-yard game with a 65-yard touchdown that saw him stiff-arm MSU junior safety Kivon Coman – the former Florence High standout – at the Bulldogs’ 20-yard line before coasting into the end zone for his nation’s leading 19th rushing score on the season. Alabama State trailed for most of the first half and tied it three times in the second half before finally grabbing a 67-66 lead on a basket by Bobby Brown. “We did most of it with four guys rushing”.
While Prescott’s numbers haven’t changed a whole lot since last season from an efficiency standpoint, his team does walk into this game with two more losses than they did past year. “They have good vertical passing game so when they play fake they can throw the ball deep”. Ridley has become a reliable go-to for Coker in the passing game as a versatile wideout.
Kenyan Drake, RB, Alabama: With over 100 total yards against LSU last week, Drake showed his stuff as both a ball carrier and as a pass catcher.
