No. 5 Michigan routs Central Florida 51-14, another easy win
After the Wolverines defeated UCF 51-14 at Michigan Stadium, Frost told reporters of his observation. This was always going to be a big challenge coming up to Ann Arbor to take on the #5 ranked Wolverines and UCF undoubtedly needed to play a mistake free game just to hang around. The Tigers were beaten at home by Morehouse on a touchdown run on the final play of a rain-soaked game.
“It felt like we weren’t up by enough”, said Amara Darboh, who caught five passes for 111 yards and two TDs. The Rattlers allowed 373 rushing yards and face the Chanticleers’ DeAngelo Henderson, who has 19 100-yard games and has scored a touchdown in a NCAA Division I record 27 games in a row.
MI opened up a 31-0 lead with 11:30 remaining in the second quarter on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Speight to Butt before Central Florida finally got on the board with 11:10 left in the second quarter.
“When the quarterback throws for four touchdowns and over 300 yards, that’s a great performance”.
MI extended their lead with another one-yard TD from from Khalil Hill, then Darboh put the finishing touches on the game with his second touchdown. Despite having moved the ball a bit early and having some success stopping the run, the Knights were clearly overmatched by the first quarter.
MI padded its lead to 51-14 with a little more than 10 minutes to play on a 30-yard catch-and-run from Darboh to conclude the scoring.
“Many players played and played well which is good for morale”, MI head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters. The senior started nine games for the Knights’ winless team a year ago, and got off to a solid start in their season-opening win.
So really, we don’t know a ton about MI other than that they’re in that zone where they get up for every game (which you genuinely need), and we’ll figure out a bit more when Colorado comes in to exorcise a different kind of 1990s demons.
The first week of action saw the MI football team dominate Hawaii en route to a 63-3 blowout victory. “They’re obviously going to adjust”. It’s the first multi-touchdown game of his career. All my buddies joked, ‘Yeah, they blurred out the number, but you’re the only 8-foot quarterback in the country.’ So it was easily identifiable as me.
UCF: The Knights might need a new quarterback to run Scott Frost’s no-huddle offense. With that run, Evans became only the third freshman in MI football history to top the 100-yard mark in his debut.
Despite their mostly horrendous play, both UCF quarterbacks Holman and Patti had some nice runs.
“We know we’ve got to go out and make plays, and if there’s one person on us, we can’t get covered”. “That’s really what I wanted to see”. But I thought we got the better of it, but not by a huge margin. The Wolverines were also without defensive linemen Taco Charlton and Bryan Mone, as expected. “It wouldn’t be going out on a limb to say he’ll probably be our offensive player of the week”, said Jim Harbaugh.
The Knights were not on the field during the national anthem, but Frost insisted it wasn’t a protest.
