No Coach K for Duke in Georgia Tech game
Georgia Tech guard Josh Heath (11) and Duke guard Brandon Ingram…
PREGAME: Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski will not be with the Blue Devils Tuesday night for their game against Georgia Tech in Atlanta after becoming ill Monday night.
According to a release from the school, Krzyzewski was feeling “under the weather” following a team meal Monday night.
The Blue Devils are 15-6 on the season and have lost four of five games for the first time since a pair of four-game losing streaks in 2007.
Georgia Tech: Began a three-game homestand….
Krzyzewski is expected to rejoin the team soon.
Adam Smith and Nick Jacobs led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points apiece.
This will be the first game Krzyzewski has missed since the 1994-95 season. Capel used freshmen Chase Jeter and Antonio Vrankovic-seeing his first action since late December-to stop the bleeding, but they were each pulled after limited action. Duke led by as many as 17 points before Georgia Tech rallied in the closing minutes, getting as close as seven. Detroit Lions star Calvin Johnson attended the game. Layups, dunks and free throws accounted for the last 16 Georgia Tech points, reminiscent of the Blue Devils’ 80-69 loss at Miami Jan. 25 and the sign of a team worn down by six players logging heavy minutes.
TENNESSEE 84, No. 20 KENTUCKY 77 (at Knoxville, Tenn.) – Kevin Punter Jr. scored 27 points and Armani Moore added 18 points and 13 rebounds, and the Vols erased a 21-point deficit.
Duke Basketball will return home for a rematch against in-state rival NC State before entering a very tough part of the schedule with 4 straight games against ranked opponents hosting Louisville and Virginia and then travelling to play at North Carolina and Louisville.
