No Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 for the West, says publisher
Last Wednesday, the “Dead or Alive” Facebook page responded to an individual’s question about whether the upcoming game would be coming to the United States and Europe.
While the comment is open to some interpretation it does seem to suggest that Koei Tecmo – or at least, this representative – is citing the potential for criticism as the motivating factor behind the lack of English-language release.
Japanese video game publisher Koei Tecmo has said on its official Facebook page that it won’t bring “Dead or Alive Xtreme 3” to Western audiences.
Team Ninja followed up its original statement to reveal the real reason behind not planning to develop the game for western territories. Costumes include the Bath and Bedtime DLC, which dresses up Dead or Alive’s various female characters in bath towels, nightgowns and pyjamas.
They went on to explain why in another reply: “Do you know many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry?”
Thank you, Koei Tecmo, for having the balls to say enough is enough when it comes to sexualization of women in the media, but also not having the balls to just not make the game in the first place. But certainly we have gone through in a year ago or two to come to our decision. This is no more apparent than in its Xtreme spin-off series, in which the women of the series partake in a volleyball tournament wherein they’re depicted wearing very few items of clothing, with these games known for focusing upon titillation and sexual themes. In Dead or Alive 5 you can unlock an “OMG breast motion” option in the menu, which does what you’d expect.
