No double standard in Clinton probe, FBI director says
But it criticized presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, who was secretary of state at the time of the violence, saying both she and her staff showed a “shameful” lack of response to congressional investigators looking into the attack on a US diplomatic compound. The referral could include Clinton’s testimony that her attorneys had actually read the e-mails that they then deleted and that “There was nothing marked classified on my emails, either sent or received”.
All of these lies where spoken in media interviews on virtually every news show in the country.
“I would tell folks in those cafes to look me in the eye, ” Comey said.
In a later exchange with Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) Comey said Clinton wasn’t sophisticated enough to understand what information was classified and what wasn’t.
She affirmatively rejected efforts to give her a state.gov account, she kept these private e-mails for nearly two years, and only turned them over to Congress because we found out she had a private e-mail account.
Rep. Matt Cartwright: So if Secretary Clinton really were an expert at what’s classified and what’s not classified, and were following the manual, the absence of a header would tell her immediately that those three documents were not classified.
“Did the FBI investigate her statements under oath on this topic?” he asked.
And he repeated his earlier contention that “no reasonable prosecutor” would have pursued criminal charges, saying at one point, “We went at this very hard to see if we could make a case”. The facts are evident and clear. Comey also said in his statement Tuesday that Clinton and her senior aides were “extremely careless” with their handling of classified material. I know from 30 years with the Department of Justice, they have grave concerns about whether it’s appropriate to prosecute somebody for gross negligence, which is why they’ve done it once that I know of in a case involving espionage.
Attorney General Loretta Lynch said Wednesday that she accepted the recommendations and findings of Comey and of her career prosecutors and would not file charges against Clinton.
Comey’s appearance marked the latest turn in a political dispute that continues to cast a pall over Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
Director Comey, himself a Republican, who spent years as a federal prosecutor, can expect a grilling on Capitol Hill Thursday from House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz.
He said investigators found no evidence that Clinton or her aides meant to break the law, even though they mishandled classified information. “I did not coordinate that with anyone”. What we can’t establish is that she acted with the necessary criminal intent.
Of course, even if Clinton was using an official government email account, there’s no guarantee it would have been safe from hackers.
