No doubting Tomas as champion Berdych wins in Stockholm
Czech top seed Tomas Berdych defended his Stockholm title on Sunday with a 7-6 (7/1), 6-2 victory over surprise finalist Jack Sock of the United States.
Sock was up a break in the first set but failed to serve it out at 5-4, and Berdych then dominated the tiebreaker.
World number five Berdych survived a late scare in the final game of the match, saving a break point before a couple of booming serves put the contest out of reach.
“My serve was working well today and in the tough moments I was able to help myself a lot with the serve”, Berdych said after landing 86 percent of first serve points.
Second seed Richard Gasquet will meet French compatriot and sixth seed Jeremy Chardy for a place in the If Stockholm Open semi-finals on Friday. He twice broke Chardy to lead 5-1 in the second before getting across the line in a tight third. Gasquet will face fellow Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, after he beat unseeded Federico Delbonis of Argentina 6-3, 7-6 (2). “I was able to get a rhythm at the end and close it out comfortably”.
