No Easter Sunday without Good Friday
Because we all used to be shacked up for the evening and there was no designated driver, the fast food delivery people were run off their poor feet every Good Friday. “Just ask any pharmacist for more details”.
Ours is a culture that’s forgotten how to rest. When we are bombarded with lies and misinformation on a daily basis, a dedicated day (or half day really, as the joke was on you if you continued it past midday) which gives permission to make a fool of another, seems pretty lame. It’s tempting to spend even the Lord’s Day worked up over the stories in our newsfeeds. However, the core constitutes of a four-day religious event, the first of which starts on the Thursday preceding Easter Sunday. The Toledoth Jesu (fifth century) states that Jesus was in a tomb but was resurrected and not at the tomb when people came to see him days after his death. Peter, impatient for a revolution, cut off the servant’s ear in Gethsemane.
The (mainline at least) Christians get their panties in a bunch like no else when you suggest that belief in the physical resurrection of Jesus is the lynch pin of Christian orthodoxy.
Easter Sunday is so special because of Jesus dying on the cross for this sins of the world.
First, he noted that scholars are in agreement and that there are early reports of Christ’s resurrection. Having had their fill on Good Friday, however, the majority may well be glad of a day in the bed. This means that He was not in the tomb for 72 hours, no matter how you slice it. This year, I made a decision to share it with a wider range of people through this article. “It’s the truth and we would be foolish not to believe it”. Sunday by Sunday, in our celebration of the eucharist, time intersects with eternity as the Church is drawn into the “never-ceasing Sabbath of the Lord” (Common Worship eucharistic preface for Sundays after Trinity).
Ordering and collecting new prescriptions can take several days. The desolate quality of the rites of this day reminds us of Christ’s humiliation and suffering during his Passion.
“Jesus wasn’t interested in any institution or liturgy to honor his life but in showing us how to be children of God, created in God’s image, that is love”. It was in the light of Sacred Scriptures that they would come to recognize that the resurrection of Jesus was not simply a return to his pre-execution life, nor the last act of a life vindicating the previous humiliation, but the first moment of a new and eschatological dimension intended for all humankind. This year’s free family fun event runs from 10 a.m.to 12 p.m. on April 1 at Harris Road Park. We too, are supposed to “testify that he is the one appointed by God to judge the living and the dead”.
Significantly, because of this sacrifice through his crucifixion, commemorated on this day, the Divine Liturgy (the sacrifice of bread and wine) is never celebrated on Great Friday. As we all know we celebrate freedom because our Nation free to do anything legally because of our Father of the Nation struggled hard to bring the Independence to us.
