No fee agreed but Shkodran Mustafi has made a decision to join Arsenal
Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi has not agreed personal terms with Arsenal, according to reports.
How easy that will prove to be remains to be seen, however.
With Arsenal now amidst a defensive crisis, it looks like Arsene Wenger is moving quickly to ensure his problems are solved by the time that the Premier League begins this weekend.
Arsenal’s move for Mustafi follows the unexpected, long-term injury to captain Per Mertesacker.
While it will hardly be ideal taking on Liverpool with a centre-back pairing that could consist of new boy Rob Holding and 21-year-old Calum Chambers, if Arsenal are able to recruit Germany worldwide Mustafi, their defence will look much healthier for the forthcoming season.
Gabriel Paulista, another of the Gunners’ central defenders, is out for an estimated two months with a sprained ankle.
Per Mertesacker has been ruled out until the end of the year with a knee injury and Laurent Koscielny is also expected to miss Sunday’s opener at home to Liverpool.
The only centre-backs Arsene Wenger has to think about ahead of the clash against Liverpool are Calum Chambers and new signing Rob Holding.
And his agent, Ali Bulut, confirmed that his client has indeed agreed a contract with Arsenal, and the transfer now depends on both clubs thrashing out an agreement.
“All the big clubs experienced last season a regret and a feeling of guilt but that would take something away from Leicester, who had an exceptional season”, he added.
The Germany global started his career at Everton before joining Valencia in 2014 after a short stint with Sampdoria in between.
